Protecting our wonderful Wildlife... DARK SKY UK
Wildlife Friendly Lighting At NiteLux, we are proud to be sustaining members of Dark Sky UK. We understand the profound impact that artificial lighting can have on wildlife and the natural environment. Our commitment to responsible lighting practices ensures that wildlife friendly range of products minimize light pollution and help protect nocturnal ecosystems. By working closely with Dark Sky UK, we aim to promote awareness and implement solutions that preserve the beauty of the night sky while providing effective and sustainable lighting for gardens and landscapes. The organisation promotes good dark sky friendly lighting for all uses but mainly commercial installations such as…. • Car show rooms and dealerships • Golf driving ranges • Car parks • Supermarkets • Warehouses
There are 19 designated Dark Sky areas in the UK. Seven reserves, seven parks, four communities and one sanctuary, with more to come. Before proceeding with any lighting design, it is important to check these areas, as your plans might need approval from the local authority. Six UK National Parks – Exmoor, Brecon Beacons, Moore’s Reserve in the South Downs, Snowdonia, North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales have been awarded International Dark Sky Reserve status. If you are outside these areas, the choice is entirely yours, and NiteLux is here to provide all the help and advice you need. Consider having two switchable zones in your garden: one that adheres to Dark Sky principles and another for entertaining purposes, used as needed. We also recommend using a timer to ensure lights don’t stay on all night. All NiteLux light fittings have a Kelvin level of 3000k, classified as warm white, which aligns with Dark Sky UK recommendations. Wherever you see this logo throughout our catalogue, it means our product is Wildlife Friendly!
