Burgundy 2021 Supplement

WHITE BURGUNDY MÂCON

DOMAINE ERIC FOREST - VERGISSON We’ve bought Eric Forest’s wines before, but tasting in his Vergisson chai overlooked by the beautiful “deux roches” of Vergisson and Solutré really brings home his quality and terroir detail. If you haven’t been, Mâconnais in autumn is a real thing of beauty and the altitude here brings home why so much further south they still harvest much later than the Côte d’Or. His wines are of a lean and saline texture with lovely fruit volume. Highly refreshing, as is the dynamic man himself. Eric now has 8 hectares, 5 of which were planted by his father. He works organically but wants the liberty to manoeuvre if necessary. He explained his philosophy as follows: “If you need a health check, go to hospital for treatment but otherwise protect the plants through quality of life: “en bio”. Chemicals can help them to survive but it’s reactive”. So, he is more organic than “lutte rasoniée” : he used chemicals in 2016 and 2021 where he had to save his crop. You will not be disappointed in these wines - take note especially of Les Crays and his newwine Clos des Charmes.
