Burgundy 2021 Supplement

DOMAINE BALLOT-MILLOT - MEURSAULT It is always an absolute pleasure to taste Charles Ballot’s wines fromhis Domaine in the heart of Meursault. His wines are all about finesse, elegance and nervy energy, eschewing the rich, buttery Meursault of yesteryear. The result is tensile, mineral wines which age incredibly well. We have been banging the drum for thesewines for years nowand it feels that theworld is starting to takenote, whether it is serious collectors around the world, or critics, particularly Neal Martin’s reviews of themagnificent 2019 range. Charles truly has the land inhis blood. He is the 17th generationwinemaker froma family that can trace the heritage back to 1780. He took the reins at the Domaine at a tender age, meaning 2021 is his 22nd vintage and he is still only in his early 40s! His philosophy is simple; he picks reasonably early using a maximum of 20% new oak on his 1er Crus. Natural yeasts are used, no punching down and doing as little as possible in the winery to preserve a true sense of terroir. His 2021s are tight and nervy. They will take time to open up, but they will be incredibly long lived and will be absolutely stunning in a few years’ time. We strongly feel that, alongside Samuel Billaud, Charles Ballot could be the future superstar in our portfolio.

WHITE BURGUNDY CÔTEDEBEAUNE

BOURGOGNE BLANC From a blend of plots from Meursault and Puligny. Cool vibrant, sappy and toasty nose. Notes of citrus, a bit of apple andwet stone. The palate is taut, a little closed still as has just been racked. Racy, very fresh, not as rounded and toasty as the 2020, leaner and more true to the vintage. Finish is long and fresh. 2023+ £145 - £160 / 6BOTTLES

MEURSAULT, 1ERCRUCHARMES An intense flinty nose. Citrus and Granny Smith apple. The palate reflects these notes with the textbook generous acidity through to the finish which is long, quite weighty and textural. 2026+ £580 - £655 / 6BOTTLES 2027+ £510 - £575 / 3MAGNUMS
