Burgundy 2021 Supplement

DOMAINE COMTE ARMAND - POMMARD As always, a tasting with our very relaxed yet super-competent friend Paul Zinetti is a huge pleasure and that the wines are stunning always helps! This is an imposing and impressive address with a rich history. They are justly famed for theirmonopoleClos des Épeneauxwhichhas been in theComte’s ownership since 1826. It is a privilege to receive a direct allocation fromthem. In2014, Paul took over the reins fromBenjamin Leroux (whose wines we also buy!) and he continues the biodynamic old vines, low yields philosophy with meticulous work in both vineyard and cellar to provide wines of finesse, great charm and precision. This year the yields have been very low, and this was very noticeable in the barrel room which felt more than half empty, especially in comparison to the brimming cellar of 2022s next door. We were really impressed by the quality of the range this year, punchy wines full of character and deep ripe fruit but with excellent finesse. Abrilliant range fromhumbleAligotéup to thenobleÉpeneaux...fingers crossedweget a reasonable allocation!

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BOILLOT - POMMARD Jean-Marc Boillot is a grandsonof Étienne Sauzet, so goodwine is inhis blood! Hewas originallywinemaker for Olivier Leflaive but then moved to set up his own Domaine in 1985. He now runs this 11 hectare estate with his daughter Lydie and son Benjamin. They have 5 hectares of red and 6 hectares of white. The quality of the wines is enviable across the board. They have also developed a négociant arm producing wines from across the Côte d’Or and the Côte Chalonnaise. Unfortunately, due to low yields they were not receiving visitors this year, a trend which we hope won’t become the norm. The wines are always classically made, serious but can be approached in their youth. Their Montagny 1er Cru has always been a favourite amongst customers and staff alike so we have our fingers crossed to receive an ample allocation.
