DOMAINE JOSEPHVOILLOT - VOLNAY Joseph Voillot is a favourite of ours (and Neal Martin’s), making beautifully pure, mineral and silky Volnay and Pommard. Julian, our director, has known the Domaine for many years, previously under Jean-Pierre Charlot. Now that the reins have passed to his nephew Étienne Chaix, we think the wines might just be even better. Étienne de-stems all of his grapes and his wine carefully aged in barrel, generally between 10 15% new oak, both with the intention of keeping purity and finesse so typical of Volnay and increasingly Pommard. Étienne reported to us that he felt the vintage was perfect in quality although the volumes are disappointingly low as withmost producers in the area. So, although the wines were delicious there will be very little to go around. We firmly believe this is aDomaine towatch and buy, so please do state your interest as early as possible.

VOLNAY, VIELLESVIGNES A beautiful perfume that is classic of Volnay, full of wild strawberry, garrigue and spice. It is elegant, with crunchy red berries overlaying a beautifully silky texture, supported by fine grippy tannins and a hint of bitter

VOLNAY, 1ERCRULESCAILLERETS This is lovely, fine, fresh andmoreish. There is an amazing floral nose, classic of Caillerets, that keeps you going back to smell it. The texture is of crunchy limestone giving deceptive structure and length. It has beautiful fruit that slightly muted at this point behind the serious, savoury texture. 2028-2039 £379 / 6BOTTLES POMMARD, 1ERCRULES PEZEROLLES Pezerolles is a dark and intense wine, yet retainining its vital freshness with crunchy black cherries. It shows a brambly, wild, dark and brooding character. Delicious. 2031-2040 £535 / 6BOTTLES POMMARD, 1ERCRULESRUGIENS Immediately seductive and enveloping, with dark, brooding fruit. The palate is brighter; it is beautifully attractive with strawberry and raspberry. POMMARD A silky, inviting wine with dark crunchy fruit. There is a lift of rose petals, orange zest and Morello cherry. There is a delicious crunch of blackberries and a textbook spicy finish. 2027-2033 £230 / 6BOTTLES VOLNAY, 1ERCRUENCHAMPANS A proper, serious 1er Cru. It is very fresh, aromatic and crunchy with sour cherries and strawberry. It is tightly wound at this point, showing it will age well. It is very fresh, balanced and concentrated.
