Burgundy 2021 Supplement

DOMAINE LAUNAY-HORIOT - POMMARD Watching Xavier grow with this small estate of just 3.95 (up from 3.6!) hectares since his first bottling in 2014 has been a joy, and the results he is achieving are incredibly impressive. Previous to winemaking he flew Mirage fighter jets (the symbol on the label denotes two jet fighters forming a cross), so was very used to holding his nerve! He took an oenology course at Bordeaux University and is now thoroughly enjoying crafting some fabulous wines. The estate has extensive plots of Pommard villages because a series of only children ensured the family holdings didn’t fracture across the generations. In the vineyard, no herbicides are used and all work is done by hand. All the wines are 100% destemmed and although he found 2021 quite challenging in the cellar as he hadn’t vinified a ‘classic’ vintage since he started in 2014! Nevertheless, he applied his usual technique on tasting during extraction to judge when to stop and he allowed the wines to ferment very slowly to maintain purity and balance. The result is a beautifully pure range of wines which we can’t wait to watch develop.

POMMARD, LES PERRIÈRES Nice cool but ripe dark fruit on nose. The palate is really crunchy, quite fine and elegant. Soft juicy finish and classic acid of this vintage. Very fine, well integrated tannins, even in its youth. Clean and precise on the finish. 2025-2036 £255 - £290 / 6BOTTLES POMMARD, 1ERCRULESCHAPONNIÈRES A bit more ripeness and red fruit here. Nice and bright, with a lovely wild strawberry note and a little hint of cracked pepper on the palate. Very fine tannin, soft and juicy finish. Quite precise winemaking. Good. 2026-2039 £400 - £455 / 6BOTTLES POMMARD, 1ERCRUCLOS BLANC Quite a punchy red fruit nose with earthy notes. The palate is silky and fine with ripe red berries and smoky notes. There is more texture here and the velvety tannins bring grip to the fruit driven finish. Cool and mineral on the finish with excellent freshness. 2026-2040 £460 - £520 / 6BOTTLES

POMMARD, 1ERCRULESRUGIENS Only two barrels made this year, aged in 50% new oak. Some lovely pure red and black fruit on the nose with a realmineral influence. The oak brings a lovely smoky note on the palate which has cool red berry fruit characters with some fine but grippy tannins on the refreshing finish, serious and rewarding. 2027-2040 £360 - £410 / 3 BOTTLES

LATRICIÈRES-CHAMBERTINGRANDCRU Unfortunately not tasted this year. 2030-2044

£690 - £775 / 3 BOTTLES

CHAMBERTINGRANDCRU A very exuberant nose of cool red fruit, herbs and minerals. The palate is very fleshy and generous in fruit, it then moves to a broad structure with fine but grippy tannins. The finish is long and smoky. Once again, the tannin is well balanced against the acidity in what will be a very long lived cuvée. Cool, refined and delicious. 2030-2046 £965 - £1,090 / 3 BOTTLES
