MAISONROCHE DE BELLENE - BEAUNE On this visit the teamenjoyed amasterclass with Nicholas in his lovely tasting room in his oldmanor house in Beaune, next to which he is building a gite to allow visitors to enjoy the whole experience even further should theywish to stay thenight. Nicolas has access to fabled cellars, andvineyards fromwhencehe sources his barrels and fruit, and increasingly has been acquiring his own land for Domaine wines. Potel is deeply entrenched in the region, having been brought up at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay. He is a natural communicator, and his passion is visible in his wines, which are just joyful to imbibe. In addition, each back label on the bottles confers plenty of information, helping you grasp a better understanding of the intricacy that is Burgundy. In terms of style, he has joined the trend of reducing his new oak use over the years allowing the truest of fruit expression. The 2021s are pure and expressive with lots of crunchy fruit and a pure terroir character.

BOURGOGNE PINOTNOIR, CUVÉERESERVE A Farthinghoe favourite for good reason. A classy, bright and juicy Pinot Noir. It has crunchy red berry fruitmaking it fresh and drinkable. Ending with a delicious twist of herbal complexity. 2024-2028 £140 - £165 / 12 BOTTLES POMMARD, LESVIGNOTS Alluring notes of dark liqourice and juicy plum and blackcurrant. It is silky, juicyandverydrinkableoverlaying body, grip and freshness. 2026-2035 £240 - £285 / 6BOTTLES VOSNE-ROMANÉE, VIEILLESVIGNES This is dark, exotic, seductive and perfumed; classic Vosne. It has sweet hedgerow fruit, exotic spice, almost Turkish delight-esque and grippy structure. There is a lift of freshness and great length. 2027-2036 £285 - £340 / 6BOTTLES VOLNAY, 1ERCRUCAILLERETS This is classic Caillerets (limestone pebbles give finesse, brightness and elegance). There is a fine, red fruited and floral nose here. So pure with chalky limestone texture and floral notes. There is serious, fine-grained structure beneath the pretty fruit and floral tones. The finish is mineral, powdery and fine. It is powerful yet so light on its feet. 2028-2039 £325 - £385 / 6BOTTLES GERVREYCHAMBERTIN, 1ERCRUCOMBEAU MOINES A charming, cool and crunchy red fruit nose. It is so soft and welcoming, with silky texture. There is red fruit merging with brooding darker fruit, classic of Gevrey. 2026-2035 £340 - £405 / 6BOTTLES CHAMBOLLEMUSIGNY, 1ERCRUGROSEILLES Groseilles means redcurrant, giving a sense of its style. Wonderful purity of Chambolle fruit; redcurrant, rose petal, summer berries and delicate spice. It floats across the palate weightlessly, it is so silky, pretty, elegant and bright. There is a hint of milk chocolate cocoa. So pretty and so Chambolle, easy to love. 2027-2038 £415 - £490 / 6BOTTLES

VOSNE-ROMANEE, 1ERCRULESROUGES Les Rouges gives a crunchy red fruited nose with elegant power and a creamy texture. It is so silky, fine and creamy with elegant spice and pure ethereal fruit. This is really very good. 2027-2036 £460 - £545 / 6BOTTLES CHAPELLE-CHAMBERTINGRANDCRU An exotic wine that brings forward an array of flavours. It shows bruised apricot and rhubarb compote. There is a lovely creaminess working alongside the tart summer pudding notes. The structure is ably hidden by the fruit, it is charming and powerful. It is not obviously structured, but that builds over time, emerging from behind the delicious fruit. 2030-2044 £900 - £1,065 / 6BOTTLES ÉCHEZEAUXGRANDCRU This is a brooding, seductive wine with a wonderful exotic perfume. There is energy, a silky texture layering with bright, exotic red fruit. The structure is powdery yet grippy, very serious but with intense perfume. 2031-2045 £1,185 - £1,400 / 6BOTTLES CHAMBERTINGRANDCRU The pinnacle of this excellent range, it is a beautifully complete and balanced wine. It really is amazing, expressive, powerful and fresh. It shows the whole spectrum of red and dark fruits, savoury yet floral and bright.Despite itbeingsoopen, it isfinessedandrestrained too. The texture is beautifully silky, with amassive array of defined complexity. There is masses of concentration yet effortless andbalanced.
