REDBURGUNDY CÔTEDEBEAUNE OSA: On Strict Allocation 28

DOMAINE RAPET - PERNAND-VERGELESSES The Rapet estate is located between Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses which is wrapped around the foot of the prestigious hill of Corton. We arrived at thewinery to bewelcomed byVincent andhis sonRobin. Robinhas beenworking inwineries across theglobe tobroadenhis knowledge and understanding of winemaking and as a result his English is excellent. He is set to take over from his father in the coming years and he was very keen to explain all of the intricacies of each plot to us as well as giving in depth information on thewinemaking techniques which they employ. Theywork organically and should receive accreditation next year. Their style is for wines with good fruit character that are lean and fresh. Thewhites are complex and spicy this year whereas the reds are juicywith an elegant structure. All in all, an interesting Domaine not to be missed! We were fortunate enough to taste a Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses from1969whichwas elegant and still had a pretty core of wild strawberrywhich goes to show howwell these wines can age.

PERNAND-VERGELESSES, 1ERCRU ÎLEDE VERGELESSES

CORTONGRANDCRU From two sites which are both south facing, one rich in iron and the other with more clay soils. Very red fruit with mineral influence on the nose. Pretty cherry fruit with spice and oak. The palate is juicy but with a serious almost ferrous note. The tannins are firmbringing a good structure, and the acidity is balanced against both tannin and fruit. This is a keeper and will reveal complexity and terroir over the next few years. 2028-2040 £350 - £400 / 6BOTTLES

One-third whole bunch is used in this cuvée. A lovely bright crunchy fruit nose with maybe a touch more intensity. The palate is delicious, a beautiful core of gentle red fruit, there is some cranberry and wild strawberry here. It has a touch more structure and length than the previous wine. Very good and an excellent representation of the vintage. One not tomiss. 2026-2038 £210 - £240 / 6BOTTLES BEAUNE, 1ERCRUGRÈVES The fruit comes from 60-year-old vines which give low yields, bringing concentration to the wine. The iron rich soils on this site give a very generous nose with a very ripe fruit character and a lovely floral note. A bit of smoke lingers on the nose from the 25% new oak. The palate is weightier with some dark fruit. There is more structure here and the tannin gives a good grip. The finish is juicy and fresh. Very nice. 2027-2039 £230 - £265 / 6BOTTLES
