REDBURGUNDY CÔTEDENUITS OSA: On Strict Allocation 24

DOMAINE TAWSE - NUITS ST. GEORGES PascalMarchand is a French-CanadianBurgundy “legend”who introducedbiodynamicwinemaking to the region as the régisseur at Comte Armand, Clos des Epeneaux in 1985. He took the reins at only 22, redefining winemaking possibilities in the region. Today theman is still a human dynamo with a level of intensity and energy that is a joy to see. We had an enjoyable tasting as he poured the wine and opined on everything Burgundy inhis Nuits cellars, where he owns two large buildings in the centre of town. He’d thendisappear to collect another sample, returning mid-conversation where he’d left off! The Domaine wines are from 8 hectares and a third of his total production. At first, we assumed the Domaine wines would be better and then realised Pascal has oversight on growing onhis long-termagreements, nomatter what. His wines have an open style and great intensity, offering real vineyard clarity and range all under one roof. Back at Comte Armand he picked his successor, Ben Leroux, who began working for him aged 13! And they helped the estate sign up Paul Zanetti after that. Youwill find both these top winemakers in these pages. It’s wonderful to finally have the wines of their “Godfather” andmentor to offer as well, to complete the lineage!
