DRYWHITE BORDEAUX Althoughrare, drywhiteBordeauxwines rankamong theworld’sbestwhitewine. Traditionally,whites from this region are barrel-fermented or oak-aged, primarily from Sauvignon and Sémillon grapes. Generally grownon the lighter, sandier soils, these are often serious wines that can age for decades. 2021 has produced intensely flavoured, ripe, butmost importantly, very high acidwines which really impressedus. 2021 will be heralded as an outstanding vintage for whites for many years to come.

WHITE BORDEAUX

CHÂTEAUOLIVIERBLANC, GRANDCRUCLASSÉ 75% Sauvignon blanc, 25% Semillon. A vibrant fresh and slightly smoky nose, intense and elegant. The palate has plenty of gooseberry and pithy lemon. Ripe and rounded with a long glassy finish. DRINK: 2023+ £100 - £125 / 6BOTTLES WA90-92 CHÂTEAUMALARTIC-LAGRAVIERE BLANC, CRU CLASSÉ 78% Sauvignon, 22% Semillon. A very ripe, pure nose. The palate has some weight and a creamy texture, citrus and ripe tropical fruit on the mid-palate. The finish is long and zippy. Plenty of freshness here with a good mineral character. Good. DRINK: 2023+ £195 - £230 / 6BOTTLES WA90-93 CHÂTEAUDE FIEUZAL BLANC 65% Sauvignon blanc, 35% Semillon. A ripe nose of green fruit and quince, the palate is very zippy with a strong Sauvignon blanc character. The finish is long and chalky with a searing acidity. DRINK: 2023+ £195 - £235 / 6BOTTLES WA92-94 DOMAINEDECHEVALIERBLANC, CRUCLASSÉ 70% Sauvignon blanc, 30% Semillon. A grassy nose showing preserved lemons and green apple. Quite broad on the palate with plenty of fruit and a creamy texture. A good cool mineral finish which is long and complex. Very fine and elegant. DRINK: 2023+ £365 - £435 / 6BOTTLES WA94-96 LACLARTÉDEHAUTBRIONBLANC 56% Semillon, 44% Sauvignon blanc. 46% new oak. A new clear glass bottle this year. Verymuted on the nose but opens up with time to reveal zest and a cool chalky note. The palate shows green apple, citrus zest and a hint of waxiness. The body is quite full with an intense steely freshness, some grip on the finish from the new oak. A very serious wine which will keep well. CHÂTEAUPAPECLÉMENTBLANC, CRUCLASSÉ 76% Sauvignon blanc, 20% Semillon, 3% Sauvignon gris, 1% Muscadelle. Waxy on the nose with a strong steely mineral note, good ripe fruit, very intense with lemons, waxy lemonpeel and peach. The palate is very generous in fruit, really juicy and ripe. Citrus fruits, stone fruits andahint of tropical fruit juice all on show. The finish is weighty, long and pure. A very big and bold white. DRINK: 2024+ £475 - £585 / 6BOTTLES WA89-91 CHÂTEAULAMISSIONHAUT-BRIONBLANC 55.2% Semillon, 44.8% Sauvignon blanc. 53% new oak. Initially a little muted on the nose but opens to show lemon zest, cut grass and a cool chalky note on the nose. The palate is vibrant with green apple, citrus zest and a hint of waxiness. The body is quite full and the steely freshness is intense, the long finish really shows the large percentage of Semillon in the blend. A bit of grip on the finish from the oak again. This will need time. DRINK: 2024+ £1,295 - £1,595 / 3 BOTTLES WA93-95 CHÂTEAUHAUT-BRIONBLANC 57% Sauvignon blanc, 43% Semillon. 44% new oak. This is very fleshy and ripe on the nose, generous and rich. There is plenty of lemon, green apple and herb here. The palate reveals apple, some stone fruit, a bit of blossom along with the generous citrus fruit character and a gentle talc note. The palate is really fat and full bodied. The finish is long and full of Semillon zip. This will keep well for a very long time with its intense ripe fruit character and searing acidity. Stunning. DRINK: 2024+ £1,700 - £1,985 / 3 BOTTLES WA94-96+ The 2021 Haut-Brion Blanc is “one of the two or three finest Haut-Brion whites of the last 20 years.” - WILLIAM KELLEY, WINEADVOCATE
